Back from a sun (and wine) soaked jaunt to the Okanagan. We left last Friday. As usual there was much eating and drinking, but this time there were a few game changers.

Michael rode in the Granfondo on Sunday - 100 miles in blistering heat. He hadn't adequately prepared for it, and I sort of pushed him into it, and so maybe you
can't wing a 160 kilometre bike ride in Penticton in the summer. I imagine it would be like winging a marathon which you also can't do. Anyways, he finished it and his time was respectable and he didn't end up in a first aid tent or blow out a tire and he was very appreciative to be able to spend a Sunday riding around Penticton and Oliver.

To shake things up a little we went for a hike during the heat of the day in the mountains behind Michael's mom's house. We could have used a little more water. We ended up, ultimately, climbing almost to the top of one of the mountains and - once there - I saw a large, brown animal moving in the bush up ahead of us. I was terrified we had stumbled upon a bear, but it was actually a bighorn sheep - one of two grazing in the area. It was a pretty awesome experience and it was worth the dehydration and the sunburn I got on the back of my neck and that I had to go down some really steep and crumbly trails to get out of there. I clearly was not a bighorn sheep in a prior life.
We also went for an accidental tour of the
SS Sicamous which I don't believe Michael or I ever visited in our many years of going to Okanagan Lake. It was a great museum with lots of fascinating history and an interesting peek into what it was like to travel by luxury stern wheeler in the early 1900s.
Additionally, Michael's mom's dishwasher started leaking while we were there so we spent a small chunk of the morning trying to repair it, since we're both licensed dishwasher repair people. It was actually kind of fun. Michael undid the U joint under the sink and water started flushing through the pipes and I almost dumped the overflow water into... the sink. We actually did figure out what the issue was and did our best to fix it (and I will say we reduced the leakage very significantly) but at the end of the day the dishwasher was almost 15 years old and so she ended up buying a new one.
