On Wednesday afternoon my mom flew into Penticton. The last time she was there I was in my early teens, my brother was around nine or ten years old, and we were front and centre for the
Peach Fest riot. I actually have a memory of my mom driving down the main drag when we were there and almost being run off the road by a drunk guy riding either a bicycle or one of those pedal cars you can rent. It was more than a little scary. We checked into a local hotel and went to Salty's for dinner.
The next day we picked up Michael and his mother and went for a scenic drive to Oliver for lunch. The weather remained blistering hot the entire time and though I am not one for frills, I am hella glad I have A/C in my new-to-me car.
Yesterday my mom and I did a hop on/hop off wine tour and hit La Frenz, Red Rooster, Ruby Blues, Black Widow and Lake Breeze wineries. The Viognier (one of my favourite wines) at
Ruby Blues won the Governor General's award recently and they told me the GG is actually coming to the winery with a delegation to celebrate this. It was possibly the best white wine I have ever tasted. It was a great, funky little winery with knock-your-socks off wines and I am seriously considering joining their wine club since they produce small amounts and I'm not lucky enough to be able to live in the Okanagan so as to drive over there and buy whatever my little heart desires.

Slightly tipsy (me, only), my mother and I went for dinner at Michael's mom's place: potatoes; to die for salmon; salad; fruit flan. It was one of the best meals I've had in years. God it was good. Afterwards we were treated to an amazing lightning storm. Fingers crossed there weren't too many lightning strikes. Thankfully it's been raining in the Okanagan a lot lately so it's not as tinder dry as it usually is.
Today we got up and checked out the Farmer's Market which was huge and picked up some cherries, apricots and I bought some lavender and lemon shortbread cookies.
Cor. I love food and wine and I'm trying to justify my caloric explorations by assuming that hike up the mountain was worth about 100,000 calories.
Sounds like a good vacation. I'm off to the ranch tomorrow.
