Y'all

Our living room
One of the fun things about the South is that people actually say "Y'all" here.  It's so unique for us.  I haven't been able to say it myself though.  Maybe it's as neat to us as it to Americans we we say "eh".
In sad news, our Felix passed away last Saturday.  He had been suffering with various ailments for the last couple of months and the vet felt that he was likely in pain, and that he'd suffered a stroke at some point, and so my mom had the vet come over and held him while he was put down.  Felix was about 18 years old and we got him when we lived in South Surrey and he was just a kitten.  He moved with my mom to her place in Kits, and then again to her place in Olympic Village.  He managed to escape cars, coyotes and serious injuries.  His later years were a bit boring living in a condo when he was used to roaming and mousing, but he was well loved and well taken care of.  I hope he loved us as much as we loved him.  He was a funny, affectionate cat.
Today we made the drive from Charleston to Savannah in a Toyota minivan.  We did so in a Toyota minivan that we did not want as we reserved - and paid for - a mid-sized sedan (long, angry rant about that later... which you can opt out of reading if you please).
The cottage we are in is great.  It has rooms.  It has a full kitchen and a it's like a little house that is ours until Sunday.  We'll even get a chance to laundry!  And it was cheaper than a hotel, which is the kicker.
Weird sex.
We haven't quite figured Savannah out yet, but in walking around it is much more grid-like than Charleston, but it is also a newer city than Charleston.  It has lots of public gardens and squares, though they have rather botched the riverfront a la Niagara falls by filling it with touristy, gimmicky shops.  The couple we rented the cottage from said they never go down there, and having visited it once I can see why.
One the flip side, whilst Charleston was quite British and all about proper dress, manners, attire and breeding, apparently Savannah is home to the Savannah College of Art and Design, so there are thousands of art and architecture students here so we're hoping for a more laid back, artsy, indie vibe.  We already stumbled across a Moshe Safdie designed museum which we'll likely go back to check out.
Picked up some pre-made food at Krogers and are just settling in for Game 7 between the Rangers and Capitals.  We're so Canadian, y'all.
