So good

Today was good.  We got up and caught a water taxi from the Aquarium to the USS Yorkton exhibit, in Mount Pleasant, which was excellent.  Touring an aircraft carrier that carried, fed and cared for 3,500 sailors was impressive.  Did you knew there was a barber shop aboard?  Or dental offices?  Or a soda shop?  It was a very impressive and educational tour which I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Charleston.
They also recently added a Vietnam exhibit which was both informative but hard to take as it was somewhat interactive and gave some very disturbing insights into Khe Sanh.
Lightening things, up we caught the water taxi back to Charleston and wandered through Battery Park where a bunch of youngsters were dressed up like debutantes.  I guess it was some sort of high school or college thing?  Anyways, all of the girls were a size two or zero and were stunningly beautiful.  Michael wanted to picnic there.  Sadly (cough) we had to go.
We went for the best meal of our entire trip at Hominy Grill.
To start everything off we had boiled peanuts - a South thing that you might have seen on HOC.  They were good: boiled in salted water for four hours.  They tasted a bit like edamame - very addictive.  We also tried some jalapeno hush puppies with some sort of butter infused with marmalade.  Out of this world: we couldn't stop eating them and were half full before we got our main course.
I had a vegetarian plate that consisted of cheese grits, collard greens, stewed okra and tomatoes, and squash casserole and it came with a huge slab of cornbread: it was stellar.  I wasn't on board with grits until now, but the cheese added that much more zing and flavour.  I've loved collard greens since I tried them in Philly and the waitress dropped off some homemade spicy vinegar to put on them which took them from a 7 to a 9.  I thought the squash casserole might be monotonous and boring, but it was chock full of vegetables and flavour, and was actually quite rich.  And I'd never had okra, but it was very good stewed with the tomatoes and some onions and peppers.  It was similar to the sauce that was served with Michael's catfish (also phenomenal).
Afterward we went back to Charleston Beer Works for a couple of beers while we watched the end of the Habs in the playoffs.
Boo.
Savannah tomorrow: yay!
