I sneezed, like, ten times today

Aside from Elvis tonight, yesterday we went on a 50k ride around the Traboulay PoCo trail.  It was awesome. The trail was mostly along the dykes which parallelled the river and some farmlands, and there was a nice respite at Osprey Landing where we stopped for lunch, and it made for a great day of mostly stress free riding.
There were a couple of instances on our route where we found ourselves without a proper bike lane which was a bit hairy, but they were very, very minimal, and I'm sure with more research we could find our way around it.
If you do the ride, be sure to check out Stomping Grounds Coffee for a bite to eat. We went there for lunch (and a couple of drinks) and the food was amazing, as was the ambiance and surroundings.  They are also very bike friendly, which was a huge plus.
Osprey Landing was a really cool discovery.  If it wasn't so far from where we both work, I would actually consider looking into living there.  Such a cool community.
And, in order to keep this totally outrageous lifestyle going, next weekend we're going to the much revered Yellow Point Lodge in Ladysmith.  It's rather a long story but the short version of it is that we got a gift certificate for two nights accomodation in a cabin there.  When we were given this gift, we were also told to book many months in advance because it is extremely hard to get in to.
As we were sitting on the patio at Nicklaus North, having drinks and a cheese plate (FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS) we got a call from Michael's brother who has been going to Yellow Point annually for 14 years, and who has to give up his reservation this year, and can we take it.
I thought it an odd request given that normally if you give an appropriate amount of notice you don't have to pay anything to cancel - or at the worst maybe you have to pay for a night - but it seems more nefarious than that.  Apparently, those that stay there every year book their next year's vacation when they leave.  If you cancel your reservation you somehow lose some sort of priority, making it harder to book the next year's vacation in the same time slot.
When my aunt gave me the gift certificate she warned me that it would be months before we would be able to get in.
So.  Sounds a bit silly and stuffy.  I find it hilarious that we got the gift card in like, July, and vis a vis Michael's brother we'll be chilling there next weekend.  Can't wait to see what the fuss is about.  My sister in law made a comment about it being "baptism by fire" for us.  I'm not sure from whence this comment was borne, but I suspect it has something to do with the communal eating situation, and the lack of phone, television and internet, none of which are daunting for me.
I have mad people skillz.

  1. oh so you did bike around pitt meadows, eh? there are a ton of dyke trails to ride around. on the other side of dewdney, way out int he country there are a ton more, and less traffic to worry about in the event that you have to ride down the road to the next dyke. i used to do that all the time when i lived out there!
also, i love that coffee place, it's awesome.

  2. Thanks for the tip! I definitely would head back out that way for more cycling: I loved it! I hope the weather holds so we can get back out there another weekend. :)
