Did have an interesting coffee this weekend with another friend who is engaged. I think she may be engaged forever given how little she cares about planning a wedding. It was nice to talk to someone on the same page. For some reason I thought more people could care less, but it appears that more people care... more (and are willing to shell out tons of money).
Anyways, just like Michael going on and on about whether or not to buy the Ghost race bike from MEC, so I am endless researching stupid shit (key searches would be "indie" and "elopement" and "Portland"). Additionally, I haven't been running really at all which, if you know me - and you don't - is just pretty much the most idiotic thing I can do, given my spastic, high strung, depressive nature.
As I was wandering around today I realized I was near a bridal shop, so I thought I would pop in to see if they had some bridesmaid's dresses or something really simple that might be of interest. I drew close to the store front and saw acres and acres of white and ivory and eggshell and ecru with ruffles and beads and numerous signs telling one to leave one's shoes at the door and I just kept on motoring. I'm not sure I even broke stride.
This knee-jerk reaction has caused me to decide to put this whole thing on hold for a while. There's no hurry and there are a lot of other, healthier things I could be doing with my time... I'm guessing.
This weekend was fun: had dinner and drinks with another runner; went to the re-opened pub with R near our place the next night; had Thanksgiving dinner at my mom's with my aunt, Nana, step-grandfather, brother and his partner, and my nephew who is officially the most beautiful child ever (and so easy going). Michael and I couldn't believe how much he'd grown in the short time we haven't seen him.
Yesterday we wandered around Vancouver enjoying yet another beautiful, sunny day in Vancouver. Popped into the Templeton for a late lunch, which was very tasty (soba noodle salad for me, steak for my... wait for it... fiance!).
Must really try to pull my head out of my ass insofar as priorities are concerned.
I need to find a job on the North Shore so I don't have to go back to my bullshit commute.
And I should probably sign up for the Beijing/Tokyo trip on Groupon right now, because Tokyo has always been on my bucket list and there is no time like the present.
Fundamentally, I need to lace up my shoes and hit the pavement, because I have been a snivelling little bitch in the interim.
But mostly, I just want to be the asshole that can say that in 2013 I ran the Boston Marathon before going to New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., (and also did the Vancouver half marathon and made two trips to Penticton: one of which was my first bike race) and then toured Europe for five weeks (where I got engaged just outside of Bruges), before squeezing in Beijing and Tokyo before Christmas.
Yeah.
Don't you just want to smack me?
UPDATE:
| It's not yet Hallowe'en, but we have a Ghost! |
