I didn't realize that it was an exceptionally wealthy and exclusive place, with no small amounts of snobbery thrown in. Our tour guide gave us the run down on the town and yes: it was the place to go to marry off your daughter if you were monied in the hopes of making a like match.
On the architectural front: it was just stunningly beautiful. It was almost as though it was a fake set for a movie or something. The buildings were beautiful, the bridge was beautiful, the waterfront was stunning, the parks were epic... you get my drift. It is, to date, the most beautiful city I have ever been to.
It was breathtaking.
From here we went on to see Stonehenge.
Why was it built there? What was the purpose? So many thousands of years ago - how did they manage it? Why did they keep rebuilding and changing it?
It's quite the riddle, and it's fascinating and it's something to behold, entirely. We were there a relatively short period and yet I was drawn in to its eerie, enduring and mysterious presence.
A very long day, today, for sure, but our Evan Evans tour guide was just an absolute wealth of information.
We've been here briefly, but so far the Brits have been utterly hospitable and curious and are so eager to offer up the details of their history which has so much depth and breadth.
Tomorrow we move to our new hotel as part of Trafalgar tour, and then shortly thereafter we are off to (I believe) Belgium.
