I remember reading something, somewhere, once, about how employees that feel that they aren't being compensated fairly find ways to make up for it to even the proverbial scales. Say you have to work through your lunch hour, so you steal some toilet paper - things like that.
Today my boss came out of her office and very directly and specifically gave my coworker a task to do, which involved going into the storage room located in the parkade, pulling some old files, and compiling a spreadsheet. After she returned to her office, my coworker came over to me and very quietly (I am in close proximity to my boss's office) informed me what "I need to do", which was exactly what he had just been told to do.
Who the fuck does stuff like this? So I did his job for him, walked into my boss's office and gave her the file I'd completed, expecting puzzlement that it was I and not him turning in the work, or at the minimum a perfunctory "thanks", neither of which materialized, which is why I am writing this post right now.
Two more hours until chardonnay. Happy Friday!
Nobody else you can delegate that task to? Amen for happy hour.
ReplyDeleteLowest person on the totem pole, me.
ReplyDeleteWhat you permit, you promote. The OM where I work started doing that stuff to me when I first started. I learned real quick to say that I was in the middle of something and if she wanted to start without me and then I'd help her when I finished my stuff. Her biggest peeve now is that I have over 50 hours of comp time and I insist on showing it on my time sheet. She really hates it when I use the comp time too. God forbid she have to answer the phone or the door.
