Wow. Canadians must just really be the laughing stock of the world right now.
We've got a bunch of appointed (versus elected) people that are just bilking the taxpayers at every opportunity they get and when they DO get caught, instead of being shame faced they claim "the rules weren't clear" and that they were unaware that they were doing anything wrong.
Interestingly enough, my job has some similarities to those in the Senate. While the Senate's wages are paid by Canadian taxpayers, my wages are paid for by members of one of BC's largest unions. And while members of the Senate aren't elected, nor was I elected by the members of the union that I work for. And as, perhaps, the rules aren't apparently sterling clear on what is a valid expense for members of the Senate, nor is there anything in my collective agreement that says explicitly, say, that I shouldn't steal toilet paper, sticky notes or staplers.
But do you know why it is that my fridge isn't full of ripped off milk creamers, tea bags and really coarse toilet paper? It's because EVERY DAY that I go to work I know WHO IS PAYING MY SALARY and so I try and DO THE BEST JOB POSSIBLE because I understand that in most instances. I make quite a lot more than these individuals do and because THEIR DUES PAY FOR MY LIFESTYLE I am respectful of that.
That we are even engaging in any sort of conversation about such gross abuses of power that would get an average worker fired for what is tantamount to fraud and theft is just staggering to me. And that Brazeau, Wallin and Duffy have the audacity to point fingers and whinge about the vagaries of it all makes me see red. The sense of entitlement and the disgusting displays of finger pointing are sickening.
Also. Harper. Didn't even show up today to weigh in on this very focal issue. Optics, buddy. I've never voted Conservative, but I am one to believe that Conservative means... um, conservative. Clearly there's a lot of back scratching going on between the Conservatives and the Senate given his totally tepid and mostly absentee take on the taxpayers getting bent over the table and fucked in the ass.
And as I've never voted Conservative, nor have I ever voted NDP. I am actually considering throwing my lot in with Mulcair if he wants to take the Senate down. I don't like the NDP given their disastrous track record within this province, but if I have to suffer through four years of their far left rhetoric which leaves the taxpayers (again) totally burdened with debt I will do it, because the NDP won't make a second term, but hopefully the Senate will be gone FOREVER. Short term pain, long term gain.
Lastly: Rob Ford (who is apparently buddies with Harper). WHAT THE FUCK. How is this even happening? I so love that Canadians are the butt of late night jokes because of this fat, unrepentant piece of shit.
And if you can for a moment, dissect things for what they are? He's really done "nothing" wrong in the eyes of the law. Being drunk on the Danforth? He wasn't on the job or driving. The video of him smoking crack? Well, it's just a video and it actually can't be proven that there was anything other than tea leaves in that pipe. Ford blatantly announcing to the media that there was no tape, and then the tape emerging? Um, nothing says politicians can't lie all the time without any goddamn repercussions.
It's time to change the way we hold taxpayer funded, political representatives accountable.
In the interim? Please sign this petition to abolish the Senate.

ReplyDeleteI love the Star.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, petition seems broken - it loads a blank page - but I am signing that as soon as it's back up. I'd love to see these greedy morons all out on their asses. And Ford...well, he's not a person so much as a caricature.
