Drama!

Today we left Nice, which was amazing.  I loved Nice: it's such a beautiful city with wonderful exposure and a brilliant blue ocean.
On our way to Zermatt we made a pit stop in Stresa for lunch, which was mind-blowingly beautiful.
It was a bit of  a long day, but we made it to Zermatt which is a very quaint little town (currently), but I can't imagine what it must be like in the winter.  It's essentially all hotels for the skiers and alpine oriented folk.
Additionally, they're not on the Euro so now we're dealing with Swiss Francs and... well, first world problems, yeah?
The funny bit of today is two-pronged and, as a highly analytical individual I'm quite overwrought about it all.
Back to our driver who evidently had a penchant for chubby Canadians in their mid-thirties.  After lunch today I got back on the bus and there wasn't anyone else there, so we started making small talk and he brought up the idea of going for some wine in Zermatt which he had brought up before when we were in Venice.
Actually, I will back it up a bit further and just ask the general populace here what they think about the whole concept: what is to be expected when someone offers to go out with someone that they are touring around for wine?  I mean, is he married?  Is he supposed to fraternize with "the clients"?  Was the offer merely a friendly one as we are the same age and he has no one to hang out with?  Is he trying to get into my pants?  Is it totally egotistical to assume that everyone is trying to get into my pants?  Am I super over analyzing things like I always do?
Anyways, when he asked me again I sort of paused and was non-committal and he immediately told me to "not say anything" and seemed rather upset and crestfallen and, naturally, I felt terrible.
I've never had to ask anyone out, and I would assume it's utterly nerve-wracking and, again, I don't know his intentions and maybe they were nothing less than noble and English isn't his first language and now the whole thing is really kind of odd.
Ultimately my mother wanted to go back to the hotel at 8pm and I really didn't, so it would have been nice to get out with someone my own age for an evening.
The second bit of drama centres around the other Canadian couple.  It would seem that the people on tour are so tired of him that they are eschewing rather great viewing seats on the bus to escape him.  He's totally damned obnoxious and, given a brief aside, more than one person has told me they are sick of the way he gets in everyone's face and asks stupid questions and is seemingly oblivious to normal social graces.  I must say I quite actively dislike him.  An Aussie said she wanted to "smack him" today and I said "Please do".  I just totally hate being tarred with the same brush as this guy.  He's a bloody disaster.
Anyways, all of this is highly dramatic and rather pointless.
Our drive from Nice to Zermatt was breathtaking to say the least.  Switzerland is stunning and I really, really hope the weather is good for the Matterhorn tomorrow.

  1. You could have had wine with the bus driver and had the chance to tell him to have a talk with the annoying guy. But oh well, now you can just tell Mr Annoying yourself that he's an embarrassment to his country. We invited our limo driver in to have breakfast at the IHOP before he drove us home for the night. He didn't get any ideas either, but the IHOP staff and patrons really looked at us funny.
