Let's all sing songs around the campfire!

One of the many things that I love about my family is their interest in current affairs and politics (and religion) and their readiness to discuss it over dinner or lunch, or even coffee in the morning as the was the case today.
I am increasing becoming aware that those "in power" are not actually in power.
My uncle spoke to me of the book "The Tower of Basel" and how it is organizations like this one - which the general public hasn't even heard of - that are the ones that manipulate the marionettes.
Naturally this of course brings me to the mainstream media, which is clearly totally hamstrung and hijacked: I get my "news" from Colbert and Stewart.
Long story short?
Are you pissed off about government waste?
Were you just totally flabbergasted that Obama hired people from Goldman Sachs onto his team?
Are you just fucking outraged by what happened on Wall Street but a scant few years ago, while CEOs are pulling in big bonuses?
Are you mad?
Are you truly, truly mad?
What have you done about it?
Who did you write?
What petition did you draft up?
What rally did you hold?
Do you really believe you can't make a difference?
I have been to one protest in my life, and that protest stopped the run of river project that was slated to go through.
I blogged once about my indecision to vote Liberal or Green and the local Liberal MLA commented on my blog (I voted Green).
One thing I love about my uncle is his quiet perseverance.  He has local issues and he wants them addressed and he follows up on them and he gets responses up to the court level.  He doesn't rail and rage and lecture: he acts on his beliefs.  He is concerned, articulate, passionate and tenacious.
Don't ever think that you can't make a difference.
Don't complain: do.
Don't expect the next person to pick up the slack.

  1. My thoughts exactly. I'm dealing with something on a far more local level with the noise of that restaurant across the street from me, but I am doing more than just bitching about it in the elevator to my fellow condo-dwellers.

I can't understand why they'll spend all that energy coming up with complaints, curses, and creative ways to ruin that business (last one I heard: egging the restaurant. Real mature.), but won't write a goddamn letter to the City of North Van so that there is an official and on the record complaint.

    Gotta love apathy.

  3. Are you pulling my leg? Are you really buying in CR?

I think in the next few years I will cash in my chips and either move to Vancouver Island or Penticton.

I will, however, still write my patented "angry letters".

  4. Either CR or Nic. Jeff will be checking it out in the next year or so. We have friends who are trying to convince the Jody on CR, but the snakes are still freaking the him out. They have built a really nice place on a hilltop overlooking the ocean.

Just getting out of the rat race is a good move. That's why I'm learning to make everything from scratch, laundry soap, soda, you name it, I'll be learning to make it.

    1. Oh my god, Judith: that's epic! I actually saw a headline the other day about how more and more young people are getting into homesteading. I totally see their point.

Good for you: I am envious!
