The Olympics are balls

This weekend kicked off with Michael and I walking over to Lynn Valley to catch some free, live music in the library square there.  The band - Souled Out - were super talented, sounded great, and the acoustics in the square were great, but it wasn't really my type of music.  On the plus side there were lots of cool dogs to pet and I also bumped into an ex-coworker that I really enjoy, so it was nice to catch up with him for a bit.
Saturday Michael got  up hella early and biked 110 kilometres in preparation for the upcoming Whistler Granfondo.  I slept until he came back because it's way easier.  After my "breakfast", I logged an incredibly hilly 9 miler in the heat of the day (still totally loving listening to Spunkshine; good buy, Duder!).
Met up with C for dinner and then we caught Barney Bentall at Shipbuilders Square. I haven't been down to the square on a Saturday night for a while, and now they have a beer/wine garden?!  Hello.  That's a nice addition.
We managed to score a table with a decent view.  I was hoping he'd play some songs from his "Gin Palace" album so we could all rock out collectively, but the band was sans drummer and also he's a lot older now than he was when I saw him the first time um, fifteen years ago.  It was nonetheless a great concert.  It was down tempo and it showcased his musicianship and his great voice and penchant for penning poignant and wry songs.  The place was packed and it was a great night for an outdoor concert on the water in North Van.  We wrapped the evening up by arguing about Chick Fil A being banned in Boston, and about the Olympics (which I think are balls).  I may elaborate on this on a subsequent post but don't want to commit to anything just now.
Today we slept in and then decided to do the BCMC trail.  And we decided we were going to run four miles to the BCMC trail.  That was really stupid because the road up to the Grouse parking lot is steep and I was like "oooh... yeah, no.  I'm not running up that".  So it was more of a 2.5 mile run followed by a vigorous hike whereupon we almost immediately got lost (and dude, we were not alone) and were making some serious headway along the Baden Powell.  Whoops.  By the time we doubled back to the start of the trail we were supposed to be on it we'd already burned through 45 minutes and we still had a four mile run back to the car so we ran for a while and then stopped for cake.  Hey: you got something to say about me eating cake mid-run?   I'm going to Boston next year.  That's right.  I had two types of cake.
Got home and didn't want to cook so we went to the Quay and got some take out (note to self: bring Tupperware next time as the waste is egregious) and sat on the waterfront watching the seabus and a barking seal and some little kid ride like a bat out of hell back and forth on the seawall.
Michael had a coupon for Marble Slab Creamery (aka the Gluttonous Ice cream Shoppe) and we both got medium ice creams which were just huge and I think my distended belly will never return to its normal, rotund size.
Came home, watched "Chronicle" which was holey like some cheeses I like.  Man: if I had crazy super powers I would use them way differently.  For example, the police would routinely be getting calls from Jon Hamm about me suspiciously materializing in his bedroom all the time.  And I'd steal Romney's Lipizzaners and donate them to a children's petting zoo in, like, Watts.  Cause I'm sure they have lots of petting zoos in Watts.  And also I would become invisible and every time Rob Ford tried to eat fast food I would slap it to the ground.  I would also make sure KStew and RPatts get back together, and I would work to ensure that the number of hot dog buns in a bag is directly proportional to the number of hot dogs you get in a package.

  1. I went to see Barney Bentall with Joe, too! He was really good (and I recognized more songs than I thought I knew).

As for the Olympics, you two are your own Olympics every weekend! I'm hugely impressed with your stamina and excellent decision making skills about cake. :D

  2. Yeah, that was a fun night. Did you see the lineup of girls waiting to get the CD of the guy before Barney? Pretty funny. And is it me, or is Barney pretty damn buff for 55? Holy!

As for the Olympics, my doctor overruled my specialist today and said no running for a month. Here's hoping Aquafit kicks ass because it looks like I'm going to be at the pool lots...
