I love music. I'm open to most genres of music. Tonight Kyprios was playing at the Quay and so Michael and I wondered down there because our apartment was hot and the alternative was moving the dining room table and chairs to my place.
That sounds like work to me.
Kyprios. Yeah. So if you don't have anything nice to say about someone, you ought not say anything at all.
Okay, I might just say a few things. Um, if you liked the "I Need A Dollar" riff that Kyprios covered, you should check out Aloe Blacc (video below).
And, uh, I hope Radiohead is aware that Kyprios is wrecking "I'm A Creep" and, oh lord, Lou Reed is still around so I hope he's okay with the "Walk on the Wild Side" sampling.
Oh, and his claim to fame? Maybe buy "The Stampeders" album first.
I understand that in art and music and literature and architecture that nothing is original, but jesus christ. Kyprios' hip hop act wouldn't be able to stand on one leg if he wasn't constantly pulling in bits from super talented and accomplished artists that shed blood, sweat and tears only to have him incorporate it into his substandard act.
I'm not a huge hip hop fan. I like Eminimen and think he's a pretty talented guy. But last year Michael and I went to the Vancouver Folk Festival where we saw Buck 65 (Rich Terfry). I wasn't familiar with his work, but I knew him from CBC Radio 2 which he hosts and we were both blown away with his performance. He's a super dynamic performer, and was very gracious and down to earth. His lyrics are great, he's engaging to watch, and, after seeing him live I bought one of his albums.
You owe it to yourself to buy the original.
Was he the Vanilla Ice-esque guy on the posters around Lower Lonsdale with the "I have mad street cred, yo!" pose?
ReplyDeleteIf so, I can't say I'm very shocked that he didn't have anything original to say/sing.
Yeah, most likely that was the guy.
ReplyDeleteOn the plus side we went to the beer garden. Yay beer gardens!
