I love Jon Stewart. Daily.

We didn't have any big plans for our last full day in New York and for some reason we checked to see if there were any tickets to the Daily Show and lo there were, because I am blessed with a horseshoe up my ass.
We started heading uptown to get them, stopping to do a little people watching in a bustling cafe at lunchtime.  After picking up our tickets we went for a bit of a rushed lunch at Gazala's Place (courtesy of NYC Free & Dirt Cheap yet again) and, again, it was right on the money.  I don't know what I had - it was some sort of croissant stuffed with spinach and cheese, with a corn and lettuce salad, hummus and a hard boiled egg - but it was excellent.  The experience was topped only by the fact that we had to use their washroom which I don't think we were supposed to because we had to cut through the tiny kitchen to get there and the thing was the size of a broom closet, stacked with laundry and perhaps a couple of bags of flour on the ground.
Back to the theatre we went to see the Daily Show.  It did not disappoint.  His guest that day was Ben Rattray, the founder of Change.com who was poised, quick, dedicated, humble and with a great sense of humour.  I love that Jon Stewart battles the utter idiocy that is the Republican party with deft humour while also promoting people that are legitimately trying to make a change.  Jon Stewart is an excellent example of someone that doesn't just rant about the injustices and the outright lies that are perpetuated daily: he creates hilarious, true, comic routines based on them, and then brings smart, passionate people on to his program that hope to make a change.
I don't know how else to fight back against the absurdity that is the right wing, but Jon Stewart is a prime example of how to do it with smart satire, truth, humour and a glimmer of hope.
It was roughly a ninety minute walk back into our neck of the woods and we were getting a bit sad that our awesome trip was coming to an end and so we hit yet another restaurant, Peep, for dinner.  It was excellent.  We ate a lot and enjoyed the ambiance and the crazy bathrooms (singly - not together).
Then we went back to our tiny hotel room for our last sleep.
