Not a fan of Vday, me.
Walk into work and everyone's smiling and high on sugar and there are cookies, cupcakes, mini cupcakes, candies and chocolates circulating.
It's 8:30am.
I kill a little time at work and make him a "coupon" which he can redeem for a night at the movies. I add some caveats: no chick flicks; no gore; I am allowed to bring vegetables in with me; nothing with Cameron Diaz - things of that ilk. I think it's pretty witty.
Around 2pm my phone rings and reception says there is a delivery for me. By "me" I assume she means "us": ie. the finance department. It's payday on Thursday and so I assume it's the ADP courier. I say I'll be right down and then tell a colleague I'm heading down to pick up a package. I say "it must be those flowers that I've been waiting for all day" and we all laugh uproariously.
I get down to reception and don't see any courier packages. I do see a nice bouquet of roses and carnations all perfectly arranged and I assume it's for my newlywed coworker whose husband makes a lot of money and I say "Nice! Who are these for?" and the receptionist looks at me like I've got broccoli in my teeth or yogurt on my eyebrow (which happens) and says, "You".
This is me.
This is what I do.
I laugh.
And then I pull the card out of the bouquet and read it and lo, they are for me.
I double check to make sure they're not from my mother.
I take them upstairs and parade them past my dumbstruck teammates.
I recheck the card two more times and unless a large percentage of other people refer to their loved ones as "potpie", I start to become convinced that they are for me.
I achieve rock star status at work.
Another coworker comes by to check them out.
She asks if they are from my mom.
Awww, he's so sweet. I would probably faint dead away if Jody ever sent me flowers at work or even at home. So he doesn't. He says it's to protect my dignity, I'd faint and mess myself and then be all embarrassed when I was revived. He's so thoughtful like that. I'll post a picture of our V'day bash this weekend.
ReplyDeleteThat Michael sure is one lucky guy...
ReplyDeleteYou're hilarious, Jomamma. Jody is so thoughtful. ;)
ReplyDelete@ Anonymous: yes, Michael is surely counting his lucky stars to be with me! Okay, maybe not so much...
