Checked out of our hotel on Sunday, but we still had parking so we wandered down the main part of Old Nanaimo and ended up going for a phenomenal breakfast at
Mon Petit Choux Cafe. The service was excellent, it was an open, relaxed, bright atmosphere and the food was fresh, flavorful and decadent. Additionally? It was actually cheap (or as Po likes to say: "less expensive").

Michael tipped over the milk for our coffee. And then made "there's no sense in crying over it" jokes to which the waitress dutifully laughed. And then we asked for refills on our coffee which was gourmet coffee in huge mugs and I don't think refills were actually part of the deal, but they brought it to us anyways. I love food and give this place two thumbs up.
On the drive down to Victoria we stopped in Chemainus (me: cutting across two lanes of traffic to make the exit) because I'd never been there before and because life is short and because I love being on vacation.
I liked it. We went to the
Willow Street Cafe for a coffee and a muffin and it was a great space and it was fun to experience what is likely a tourist trap in the off season. Chemainus was a little blustery and it was working hard for tourist dollars, but I liked the vibe of the off season. We were probably one of only a few non-locals there and it's right on the ocean and there were some beautiful houses on the hill and everyone said hello which I simply loathe.
